Senior J.D. Detmer had the luxury of excelling in two sports during his athletics career at Hilliard Davidson High School.
Detmer was a solid contributor for the football and soccer programs, and had aspirations of playing at the collegiate level in both sports.
In the end, Detmer chose football, and will play at Toledo.
"It was an accumulation of a lot of things," said Detmer, who also considered Illinois. "I was really impressed with Toledo. I really liked the school."
As a freshman, Detmer helped lead the soccer team to the Division I state championship.
Doubling as the team's kicker and punter, Detmer played a key role in the football team's march to a Division I state title in 2009.
In 2010, Detmer converted on 13 of 17 field goals, with a career-high of 58 yards in a 47-6 win against Northland in a Division I first-round playoff game on Nov. 6. Detmer added 51 extra-point conversions.
"J.D. has been an integral part of the Davidson football programs success over the past three seasons," Davidson coach Brian White said. "He has served as both our kicker and punter, earning many postseason honors along the way. As much as anyone, he has been a big piece to the Wildcats' regional final, state championship and state semifinal appearances during his time. J.D. recognized the benefits of his hard work and was a mainstay in the weight room each morning over the past two years."
