Davidson boys, Bradley girls capture titles
Numerous banners representing league championships adorn a wall in Hilliard Davidson High School’s gymnasium.
Soon a banner for the boys bowling team will be added to the collection, as the Wildcats won their first league championship by finishing 4-1 in the OCC-Capital Division.
Hilliard Darby placed second at 3-2, followed by Olentangy Orange (3-2), Hilliard Bradley (2-3), Olentangy Liberty (2-3) and Olentangy (1-4).
“This is the first time the bowling team has ever done it, so they’re tickled to death about it,” coach Adrian Jasinski said of the league title. “I was tickled to death about it. We should have been undefeated (in the league), but next year we will be because we have all the guys coming back.”
Davidson’s lone OCC-Capital loss came against Orange, 1,791-1,681 on Jan. 12.
The Wildcats finished 7-6 overall and went 5-6 in the 13-team Central Ohio High School Bowling Conference-North Division to place eighth, behind co-champions Westerville North (11-1) and Jonathan Alder (11-1).
Junior Ryan Bremer leads the Wildcats with a 190.4 game average, followed by juniors Jon Martin (161.6), Jordan Beck (156.2) and Chris Hamilton (153.6).
“Ryan really hasn’t bowled up to his potential yet,” Jasinski said. “He should be able to bowl 200 every game. That’s my expectation of him.”
The Davidson, Bradley and Darby boys and girls teams will compete in a sectional Feb. 17 at Columbus Western Bowl.
The top nine teams and top nine individuals not on a qualifying team from each sectional advance to the district tournament Feb. 25 at HP Lanes.
“The team has a good chance to make (district), but Ryan will probably make the singles (if the team doesn’t qualify),” Jasinski said.
Last season, Davidson finished 10th (3,534) in the Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl sectional behind champion Jonathan Alder (4,056).
The Davidson girls team finished 2-10 overall, 2-7 in the 11-team COHSBC-North to place ninth behind champion Westerville Central (10-0) and 0-5 in the OCC-Capital behind Bradley (5-0), Liberty (4-1), Olentangy (3-2), Orange (2-3) and Darby (1-4).
The Wildcats defeated Worthington Kilbourne 1,337-1,194 on Jan. 25 and won by forfeit over Jonathan Alder on Jan. 5 after the Pioneers were ruled to have used an ineligible player in the match.
Junior Emily Moore leads Davidson with a 114.5 average, followed by junior Rachel Schramm (111.4).
All three Hilliard girls teams will compete in a sectional tournament Feb. 18 at Columbus Western Bowl or Eastland Lanes.

•The Bradley girls team won the OCC-Capital title.
The Jaguars were 13-3 overall before competing against Newark on Feb. 7 and will close out the regular season against Westerville North on Friday, Feb. 10, at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
Bradley finished fourth (8-3) in the 12-team COHSBC-South behind champion Briggs (11-0).
“The girls team is bowling well,” coach John Thompson said. “Even though we don’t have the highest-average bowlers in the league, our girls seem to show up when they need to and bowl as well as they need to win matches.”
Senior Kaitlyn Hall was leading the Jaguars with a 160.6 average through 16 matches, followed by junior Brittany Gliva (156.9) and seniors Alicia Wolfe (156.4) and Kahla Patee (146).
Last season, the Jaguars finished 11th (2,647) in the Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl sectional.
The boys team was 8-7 overall before playing Newark on Feb. 7 and finished sixth (6-4) in the 12-team COHSBC-South behind champion Groveport (11-0).
Senior Matt Hundley was leading Bradley with a 177.4 average through 15 matches, followed by freshman Brandon Knadler (172.4) and senior Conner Haenszel (163.3).
“The boys are struggling,” Thompson said. “I don’t know what’s going on with them. I haven’t been able to figure them out yet. It’s been an up-and-down year for the boys. They’ve never really consistently put anything together. If they all show up and bowl the way they’re capable of bowling, we can advance (to district) easily.”
Last season, the Jaguars advanced to district by finishing sixth (3,719) in the Webb’s Bowl sectional.
