Local girls tennis players advance to district tourney
Four members of the Hilliard Davidson High School girls tennis team will compete in the Division I district tournament Friday, Oct. 12, and Saturday, Oct. 13, at home.
In the home sectional Oct. 4 and 6, Laura Hagy and Natalie Hagy went 4-1 and placed third in doubles, beating teammates Chloe Shevlin and Ella Wilson 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the consolation final. Shevlin and Wilson went 3-2.
The top four finishers in singles and doubles from each sectional advanced to the district.
In singles, Mary Carson went 2-1, Hillary Hunt went 1-1 and Heather Haynes went 0-1 for Davidson.
The top four finishers in singles and doubles at district advance to state Oct. 19 at Ohio State and Oct. 20 at Davidson.
Two Bradley players placed in the top four in singles in the sectional at Davidson.
Ashley Thai went 4-1 and placed third after beating teammate and cousin Lauren Thai by default in the consolation final. Lauren Thai went 3-2 and finished fourth, and Taylor Ruby went 0-1.
In doubles, Kayla Bushee and Haley Jackson went 2-1 and Bailey Decker and Taylor Hayes went 1-1.
Last year, the Thai cousins went 3-1 and placed third in doubles at district, before going 1-1 in the state tournament.
Darby didn't place anyone in the top four at Davidson.
In singles, Abby Schuster went 2-1 and Joyce Kim and Megan Allen each went 1-1.
In doubles, Laura Martin and Deepthi Nacharaju went 1-1 and Abigail Greene and Hannah Lee went 0-1.
