Bradley advances to district semifinal

The Hilliard Bradley High School girls volleyball team has advanced to a district semifinal for the fourth time in the program's four seasons.

The fifth-seeded Jaguars defeated Zanesville 25-10, 25-14, 25-17 in the first round of the Division I district tournament Oct. 15 and beat Walnut Ridge 25-7, 25-7, 25-7 in the second round Oct. 17 to improve to 20-4 overall.

Bradley faced seventh-seeded Olentangy in a semifinal Oct. 24, with the winner playing top-seeded Dublin Coffman or 12th-seeded Mount Vernon in a district final at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Big Walnut. The Jaguars have not played Coffman or Mount Vernon this season.

The district champion will play Massillon Jackson, North Canton Hoover, Uniontown Lake or Wooster in a regional semifinal at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 at Davidson. Jackson was ranked third in the state poll last week.

Bradley, which finished second (11-3) in the OCC-Cardinal Division behind Westerville Central (14-0), lost to Thomas Worthington 25-22, 14-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13 in a district semifinal last season.

The Jaguars lost in a Division II district final in 2010 and lost in a Division II district semifinal in 2009.

Davidson, Darby fall in tourney

Davidson and Darby both were ousted in the second round of the Division I district tournament.

Davidson defeated Marion-Franklin 25-7, 25-8, 25-11 in the first round Oct. 16 before losing to Chillicothe 22-25, 18-25, 25-21, 26-24, 15-12 on Oct. 18. Seeded ninth, the Wildcats finished 16-8 overall and went 10-4 in the OCC-Central Division to place third behind Coffman (14-0) and Olentangy Liberty (12-2).

Darby beat Westerville South 25-14, 25-10, 20-25, 25-17 in the opening round Oct. 15 before losing to second-seeded Pickerington North 25-15, 25-13, 25-10 on Oct. 17.

Seeded 22nd, the Panthers finished 8-16 overall and went 5-9 in the OCC-Cardinal to tie Dublin Jerome and Dublin Scioto for fourth behind Westerville Central (14-0), Bradley (11-3) and Worthington Kilbourne (9-5).
