The Hilliard Davidson High School girls basketball team continued to stay in the hunt for the OCC-Central Division title by beating Central Crossing 47-45 in a home league game Jan. 26.
Point guard Lauren Bates scored a game-high 19 points, including the winning points on a pair of free throws with 8 seconds remaining.
Guard Ashley Hurt scored 11 points, including a 3-pointer that gave Davidson a 45-43 lead with 40 seconds left, as the Wildcats improved to 9-1 in the OCC-Central before playing Westland on Jan. 29.
Davidson also beat Hilliard Darby 42-39 on Jan. 26 to improve to 16-2 overall, as Bates had 12 points and seven rebounds and guard Hannah Fecht scored the winning basket on a 3-pointer with 4.3 seconds left.
The Wildcats play league games Friday, Feb. 1, at Upper Arlington and Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Olentangy Liberty.
Davidson beat UA 36-28 on Dec. 21 and Liberty 47-45 on Jan. 4.
Boys squad ends losing skid
The boys team defeated Central Crossing 50-32 on Jan. 26 to snap a six-game losing streak and improve to 3-11 overall and 2-7 in the OCC-Central before playing Westland on Jan. 29.
The Wildcats made 19 foul shots compared to eight for the Comets and went on a 28-10 run in the middle two quarters to take a 35-18 lead into the fourth.
Post player Michael Simon scored 15 points, wing player Nick Potts scored nine and point guard Adam Pierce scored eight to pace Davidson.
The Wildcats play host to UA on Friday, Feb. 1, and to Liberty on Tuesday, Feb. 5, in league rematches.
Davidson lost to UA 60-33 on Dec. 21 and to Liberty 60-37 on Jan. 4.
