Darby girls starting to hit their stride

The Hilliard Darby High School girls basketball team had won three of its previous four games before playing Dublin Scioto on Feb. 5 in an OCC-Cardinal Division contest.

The Panthers improved to 6-14 overall and 4-8 in the OCC-Cardinal by defeating Westerville South 34-32 on Feb. 1. Senior center Emily Krumpe and senior guard Sydney Palsgrove both scored 12 points. Senior guard Katie Esposito scored six points and junior guard Erika Boyd added four points.

Krumpe had 14 points with 11 rebounds as Darby defeated Worthington Kilbourne 44-36 on Jan. 29 in a league contest. Palsgrove added 13 points.

On Friday, Feb. 8, the Panthers close the regular season with an OCC-Cardinal game at home against Westerville Central. Darby lost 43-39 in the first meeting Jan. 8 as Krumpe and Palsgrove both scored 15 points.

Darby opens the Division I district tournament Feb. 16 at seventh-seeded Olentangy.

Boys squad awaits Central

The boys team was 11-7 overall and 6-5 in the OCC-Cardinal before playing Scioto on Feb. 5.

On Friday, Feb. 8, the Panthers play at Westerville Central in a league contest. Darby won the first matchup 64-49 on Jan. 8 as senior forward Nic Baker and junior guard Taylor Van Winkle both scored 19 points.

In a pair of OCC-Cardinal games, the Panthers defeated Kilbourne 40-37 on Jan. 29 and lost to Westerville South 52-36 on Feb. 1.

Van Winkle scored 15 points against Kilbourne. Junior guard David Dennis had nine points and Baker scored seven.

Baker and Dennis scored eight apiece against South.
