Hilliard Davidson High School senior Lauren Hoover, a standout in track and field and cross country, signed a letter of intent Feb. 6 to attend Miami University.
“I made my decision a few weeks ago and I’m very relieved it’s over and I think I made the right decision,” said Hoover, who will compete in both sports at Miami. “The team atmosphere is great and I found it easy to communicate with (coach Kelly Phillips). Plus, my sister is on the teams there, too.”
Jessica Hoover is a sophomore with the RedHawks.
Hoover is an all-state performer in the 1,600 meters and in cross country. She finished fourth in the state in the 1,600 as a junior and was 15th in the state cross country meet last fall.
“Lauren’s self-determination is incredible both in athletics and academics and that will serve her well on the next level,” Davidson cross country coach Nathan King said. “I think she’ll be an immediate asset in track and will be a contributor in cross country down the road when she becomes more comfortable with the longer distances.”
Hoover, a member of the National Honor Society who ranks ninth in her class, plans to study nutrition or biology, possibly attending medical school in the future.
“I am very happy to be able to enjoy this with my family and friends and I appreciate all of their support,” Hoover said.
