Consistent play still eluding Davidson

It’s been an up-and-down season for the Hilliard Davidson High School boys golf team.

After a slow start, the Wildcats showed improvement in the Kent Miller Colonial Fall Classic on Aug. 24 at Hiawatha, but then they struggled in the third OCC-Central Division tournament Aug. 28 at Darby Creek.

Davidson was seventh (318) in the 25-team Kent Miller Colonial Fall Classic behind champion Dublin Jerome (312). Freshman Jack Rubin led the way with a 77, senior Jacob Newton had a 78, junior Nick Schad had an 81 and senior Josh Stimmel had an 82.

The Wildcats then were sixth (323) in the third OCC-Central tournament, behind Dublin Coffman (300), Olentangy Liberty (302), Upper Arlington (307), Marysville (314) and Thomas Worthington (315) and ahead of Central Crossing (333) and Westland (426). Rubin had a 77, Schad had a 78, Newton had an 81, Stimmel had an 87 and sophomore Josh Adkins had an 88.

Through three league tournaments, Davidson is tied with Thomas for fifth (8-13) behind Coffman (21-0), UA (17-4), Liberty (16-5) and Marysville (11-10) and ahead of Central Crossing (3-18) and Westland (0-21).

The final league tournament will be played Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Turnberry.

Bradley, Darby tied for sixth in league

Bradley and Darby are tied for sixth (7-14) in the OCC-Cardinal through three rounds of league play.

The Jaguars and Panthers are behind Dublin Jerome (21-0), Westerville Central (18-3), Westerville South (13-8), Dublin Scioto (10-11) and Westerville North (8-13) and ahead of Canal Winchester (0-21).

Darby was fifth (345) and Bradley was sixth (348) in the third league tournament Aug. 28 at Apple Valley behind Jerome (300), Central (315), South (321) and North (340) and ahead of Scioto (351) and Canal Winchester (466).

Junior Ethan West led Darby with an 80. Senior C.J. Martin had an 84, junior Alex Herman had a 90, senior Sean Delaney had a 91 and junior Andy Rice had a 93.

For Bradley, senior Cody Storch led with an 81. He was followed by junior Noah Fernandez (82), junior Damon Birkhead (86), junior Cory Vawter (99) and Scott McCutcheon (100).

The final OCC-Cardinal tournament is Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Darby Creek.

Bradley tied Centerville for 19th (344) in the Kent Miller Colonial Fall Classic. Joe Ingstrum had an 80, followed by McCutcheon (83), Vawter (89) and Matt Runser (92).

Darby was 15th (331) in the Colonial Fall Classic, as Martin led with an 80. West had an 83 and Delaney and Herman each shot 84s.
