The Hilliard Davidson High School boys and girls cross country teams both won the 31-team Panther Invitational on Sept. 28 at Pickerington North.
Garrett Knapik placed second in 16 minutes, 13.4 seconds to pace the boys team, which totaled 43 points in the 31-team meet to finish well ahead of runner-up Beverly Fort Frye (125).
Colin Burdette placed third (16:20), followed by Luke Hoover (10th, 16:38.5), Johnny McKeown (12th, 16:48.1) and Ryan Whitney (16th, 16:54.5).
The girls team totaled 78 points to finish ahead of runner-up Lexington (102).
Lilly Saniel-Banrey led the Wildcats, placing second (19:09.9).
Jane Onders (eighth, 19:48.8) was next, followed by Lauren Erdman (19th, 20:19.7), Catherine Hildebrand (24th, 20:37) and Lindsey Ruff (25th, 20:40.7).
Both teams will compete in the Darby Dash on Saturday, Oct. 5.
McCabe leads way for Bradley boys
Eric McCabe finished 12th (15:59.82) in the Midwest Meet of Champions on Sept. 28 to lead the host Bradley boys team, which finished 17th (364) in the 19-team Race of Champions behind champion Dublin Jerome (69).
Also competing for the Jaguars were Daniel Butchko (77th, 17:20.58), Ahmed Hamed (81st, 17:26.4), Alex Lewis (100th, 17:45.49) and Brady Hall (103rd, 17:49.97).
The Bradley girls team finished ninth (206) in the nine-team Race of Champions behind champion Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary (51).
Tes Corea led the Jaguars, placing 29th (20:14.7). Colleen Grainger (44th, 21:03.65) was next, followed by Sarah Hevener (45th, 21:08.4), Elaina Alpeter (51st, 21:42.45) and Eliza Alpeter (52nd, 21:44.89).
The boys team will compete in the Two-Mile Invitational on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Westerville Central, and both teams will compete in the Les Eisenhart Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Thomas Worthington.
Melnik leads Darby girls in London meet
Emily Melnik finished 26th (21:17.68) to lead the Darby girls team in the Erin Nance Fall Distance Classic on Sept. 28 at London Country Club.
The Panthers finished 19th (216) in the 27-team meet behind champion Columbus Academy (35).
Also competing for Darby were Dani Deshuk (27th, 21:23.11), Sara Vermillion (37th, 21:55.14), Randi Saito (60th, 22:57.62) and Hannah Kunze (66th, 23:12.79).
The boys team finished 23rd (253) in the 29-team meet behind champion Academy (27).
Jamey Ehret led the Panthers, finishing 32nd (17:55.05). Also competing were Grant Akers (48th, 18:20.9), Evan Jones (52nd, 18:29.27), Ryan Baldridge (60th, 18:37.47) and Ellis Farson (61st, 18:37.81).
Both teams will play host to the Darby Dash on Saturday, Oct. 5.
