Darby ready to open tourney

The Hilliard Darby High School boys basketball team begins Division I district tournament play with a second-round game Friday, Feb. 28, at 21st-seeded Teays Valley.

Both teams had a first-round bye.

The Panthers, who are seeded 24th of 45 teams, enter the postseason with an 11-11 record. They did not play Teays Valley, which is 14-8, during the regular season.

The winner faces top-seeded Northland or 45th-seeded Hamilton Township in a district semifinal Tuesday, March 4, at Olentangy Orange. That likely will be Northland, which was 18-4 before playing Hamilton Township on Feb. 26 and was tied for 10th in the final state poll. The Rangers were 0-21 before playing the Vikings.

Darby did not play either team during the regular season.

The semifinal winner advances to a district final March 8 at the Fairgrounds Coliseum.

In Darby's final five regular-season games, Jordan Clark averaged 11.2 points, Taylor Van Winkle averaged 10 and Nick Powers averaged eight.

Wildcats preparing for district opener

Seeded 35th, Davidson opens in the Division I district tournament with a second-round game Friday, Feb. 28, at 11th-seeded Westerville South.

Both teams had a first-round bye.

Davidson closed the regular season on a seven-game losing streak to drop to 5-17.

Westerville South, which is 15-5, defeated Davidson 65-41 on Dec. 14.

The winner plays fourth-seeded Zanesville or 26th-seeded Dresden Tri-Valley in a district semifinal Tuesday, March 4, at Westerville Central. The Blue Devils were 21-1 and the Scotties were 16-7 entering their second-round matchup Feb. 26.

Davidson has not played either team this season.

The semifinal winner advances to a district final March 8 at the Fairgrounds.

In Davidson's final five regular-season games, Jimmy Ratliff averaged nine points and Josh Stimmel and Nick Potts both averaged 8.2.

Jaguars begin play in district tourney

Seeded 33rd, Bradley opened the Division I district tournament Feb. 26 against ninth-seeded Dublin Coffman in a second-round game.

Both teams had a first-round bye.

The winner plays seventh-seeded Walnut Ridge or 40th-seeded Olentangy Orange in a district semifinal Wednesday, March 5, at Olentangy Liberty. The Scots and Pioneers are 18-4 and 3-19, respectively, entering their second-round matchup Friday, Feb. 28.

Bradley beat Orange 66-52 on Feb. 8 but has not played Walnut Ridge this season.

The semifinal winner advances to a district final March 8 at the Fairgrounds.

Bradley fell to 9-13 with a 53-50 loss to Jonathan Alder in its regular-season finale Feb. 19.

Brandon Glenn led the Jaguars with 20 points and Derek Dunnagan scored eight.

In Bradley's final five regular-season games, Jackson Murphy averaged 16.6 points, Glenn averaged 15.2 points and Dunnagan averaged 9.4.
