Johnstown United Methodist Church will welcome new pastor Rev. Kenn Barton and his wife Melody on Sunday, July 6. Kenn comes to Johnstown from First UMC in Hamilton.

Barton's ministry in Hamilton has involved advocacy for the Hispanic community and caring for the helpless, the homeless and the grieving.

Born and raised in the New York area, the Bartons and their family -- son Wil and daughters Margaret and Heather -- moved to Camden, Ohio 12 years ago from Bethel Connecticut.

A graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, Rev. Barton attended United Theological Seminary in Dayton, where he earned Master of Divinity and Masters of Arts in Religious Communications degrees in 2001.

He also served as student pastor to a rural two-point charge in Preble County.

He was ordained a Deacon in the United Methodist Church in 2001, and an Elder in 2004. He was appointed to the First UMC Church in Hamilton in 2003.

Melody Barton has worked at Miami University for the past nine years as an administrative associate and conference registrar.

Heather is enrolled at Indiana University and is engaged to be married next June. Margaret is married to Anthony Jenkins, and they have a four-year-old daughter Alexis. Wil recently relocated to North Carolina to pursue a teaching career in history.
