The Hartford Fair King and Queen, two young people who have proven themselves as outstanding citizens and supporters of the fair, often greet visitors to the fairgrounds.
The King and Queen, however, aren't the only "royalty" present at the 8-day event. The Hartford Fair is filled with young people who earn this status by fulfilling certain requirements set by the Licking County 4-H program.

Many young people submit applications with their qualifications to the 4-H program judges to be considered for these two honored positions. The applications are followed by an interview to determine which applicant has the most knowledge about his or her specific areas of interest.

The judges take into account the interests of each applicant (which activities the applicant is most involved in) so they can choose a Princess, or Jr. Queen, (ages 8-13) and a Queen (ages 14 and over) for each area offered by the 4-H program. Sometimes a King and a Prince are selected in certain interest areas.

Desirable qualifications for 4-H royalty include a good knowledge of their subject area, active involvement in 4-H programs and a willingness to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for 4-H with others. Many of the chosen royalty are also expected to represent 4-H and their interest area at local parades and festivals.
4-H members work very hard and are deserving of recognition from other members of the community.
