The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Real Estate and Land Management is providing Nature Works grant funding to develop and improve outdoor recreation opportunities for projects in both Johnstown and Alexandria.

ODNR has awarded Johnstown a $1,524 grant to develop a handicap-accessible playground at Hannah's Memorial Park.

Parkers Park in Alexandria will receive $21,904 to create the Mill Race and Hemlock Trails Walking Path and Old Mill Race Scenic Overlook. The funding will also be used to construct a wheelchair-accessible 1,600-foot walking path around the park.

The program provides up to 75 percent reimbursement assistance to local government subdivisions for the acquisition, development and rehabilitation of recreational areas.

Croton Garden Club will hold its annual evergreen workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Croton Town Hall.

Club members will make swags and grave blankets that will be available for sale. Orders for these items may be placed with Helen Stallings at 740-893-2981.

Members are also reminded of the Christmas party luncheon at the home of Carol Koker set for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6.

The Big Red Band will escort Santa Claus into Johnstown at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, during the village's annual Christmas Parade.

Big Red and Claus will be joined by the Johnstown-Monroe High School cheerleaders, Miss Johnstown Brianna Warner, 4-H queens and other local royalty. Anyone who would like to participate in the parade should meet in the high school parking lot at 9:30 a.m.

Santa will meet and greet children in his house in Bigelow Park at noon on Dec. 6 and will return each weekday from Wednesday, Dec. 10, through Friday, Dec. 19 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Santa will also be available from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Dec. 13.
