Johnstown's Trevor North competed Nov. 7 at the National Future Stars Evaluation at the Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo.

North placed eighth on the national team among 59 competitors nationwide in the 10-year-old age group with an overall score of 78.70.

The Future Stars Evaluation only recognizes the top 18 athletes in the 10- and 11-year-olds age group and the top 14 athletes in the 12-year-old age group.

North's membership on the National Development Team allows him to go back to the OTC for camp next summer.

A Searfoss Elementary fifth-grader, North practices 20 hours a week year-round at Hocking Valley Gymnastics in Lancaster in the Future Star Program.

He will be starting his fifth season in December. As part of the program, he and his family will travel this year to Pennsylvania, California, Chicago, Columbus and Indianapolis.

The Future Star Program exists to identify talent and help to guide the development of coaches and athletes through education.

The program also helps prepare and introduce both coaches and athletes to the Junior National Development Team (JNDT) Program, the first stage of Junior National Team membership at the grassroots level.

Trevor is the son of Keith and Stacey North and the brother of Brandon. His grandparents are Ralph and Joanne North and Walter and Marlene Garrabrant.
