The Johnstown Chapter 4324 Knights of Columbus collected a total of 18,507 food items during the annual food drive in the Johnstown and Northridge schools last month.

The Johnstown Chapter 4324 Knights of Columbus collected a total of 18,507 food items during the annual food drive in the Johnstown and Northridge schools last month.

The collection was an increase from the 14,379 items that were collected in 2008.

All items were donated to stock the Johnstown Northridge Food Pantry, housed at the Johnstown Independent Baptist Church.

Donations break down as follows: Johnstown-Monroe High School, 4,480; Adams Middle School, 1,614; Oregon, 1,241; and Searfoss, 1,856 for a total of 9,191 from the J-M district.

The Northridge district donated as follows: Northridge High School 1,365 items; Northridge Middle, 3,543; Northridge Intermediate, 1,950 and Northridge Primary, 2,459 for a total of 9,316 items.


The deadline is today (Sunday, Nov. 1) for the Knights of Columbus Johnstown Chapter 4324 and Faith Fellowship Church Adopt-A-Family program.

Families who need assistance this year are being asked to fill out applications to be turned in by today. The applications can be picked up and dropped off at secure boxes at the Mary E. Babcock Library, Alexandria Library, Faith Fellowship offices on Main Street and Church of the Ascension. Applications are also available at the library in Croton, but there is no locked box there.

Applications request contact information, clothing sizes and preferences, as well as gift suggestions for each child in the family.


Johnstown's historic Opera House will be the site for "Concert Americana" beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Central Ohio guitarists Andy Brannon and Elena Aiello will return for this special concert of their own songs.

Tickets at the door are $6 or are on reserve by calling 740-967-8721. Parking is free. Proceeds benefit the Johnstown Historical Society.

Northridge High School will present "Little Women," will performances on Friday, Nov. 13, and Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $5 for students and seniors and $7 for adults.


The 20th annual Utica FFA Alumni Farm Toy Show and Sale will be held Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Utica High School, 260 North Jefferson St.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission is $2 and children under 12 are admitted free with an adult.
