The Ohio National Road Association will sponsor the sixth annual historic National Road Yard Sale June 1-5.

Yard sales will take place along the National Road (U.S. Route 40) in Belmont, Guernsey, Muskingum, Licking, Franklin, Madison, Clark, Miami, Montgomery and Preble counties.

ONRA members will be traveling the road to pass out information to shoppers.

Safety Village slated

June 6-17 at Searfoss

Johnstown's Safety Village will be held at Searfoss Elementary June 6-17 for any child who will be entering kindergarten in the fall.

Classes will be held 9 to 10:30 a.m., with a different lesson every day.

The children will learn and practice all kinds of safety, from fire and crossing the street to water, guns and strangers. They will drive Big Wheels in a model village to practice what they learn about traffic.

Thanks to the support of the American Legion, the cost is only $10 for all 10 days.

Works seeks

Civil War art

The Works: Museum of History, Art & Technology is looking for artists with Civil War-themed, three-dimensional, ready-to-hang artwork.

Selected pieces will be displayed Nov. 4 through Jan. 8, 2012, in The Works' Main Art Gallery during the "Art of War" exhibit. The exhibit will be a compilation of multi-media art created by various artists.

Artists should submit three to five jpg images to Lyn Logan-Grimes, art coordinator, at by Friday, Aug. 12.

Summer camp set

at Western Branch

The YMCA Western Branch has announced its summer day camp 2011 schedule.

Camp runs from June 6 through Aug. 12.

Children ages 5-12 and teenagers ages 13-16 may attend camp, based at Beechwood Trails Pool and Park, 248 Needles Drive in Pataskala.

Each week of camp has a theme. For example, Ooey Gooey Science Week is June 13-17. The "Bug Lady" will visit, and campers will conduct various science experiments, such as making flubber, play dough and bug juice.

During Olympic Week, July 11-15, campers will engage in friendly competitions involving kickball, track and field events, egg tosses, pudding relays and others. Campers will take a field trip to the Newark YMCA to compete in the Olympic Games.

"Sports of All Sorts Week" is Aug. 25-29. Campers will have the chance to join in a variety of activities, including handball, basketball, castle ball, whiffle ball, capture the flag and others.

Farmers' Market

set for Thursdays

The Licking County Health Department will begin hosting a farmers' market from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at 675 Price Road.

The market will continue each Thursday through Sept. 29. There will be no fee for farmers to participate.

Health Department

to expand hours

The Licking County Health Department has expanded its Tuesday evening hours.

The Vital Statistics Office will be open until 7 p.m. to allow residents to obtain birth and death certificates and apply for environmental health permits and licenses beyond the department's traditional hours.

The department's immunization and sexual health clinics will take appointments until 6:30 p.m.
