The Licking County Humane Society will host Pet-A-Palooza 2011 on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Wildwood Park, 785 W. Broadway in Granville.

The Licking County Humane Society will host Pet-A-Palooza 2011 on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Wildwood Park, 785 W. Broadway in Granville.

A 5K run and fun walk will launch the event at 8:30 a.m. and the pet expo will follow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The 5K is open to participants of all ages, as well as friendly dogs on leashes.

The entry fee is $35. Race registration may be completed online before the race at www.premierraces.com or on race day beginning at 7 a.m.

The first 100 participants in the 5K will receive racing shirts. Free post-race refreshments will be provided, and the top overall male and female finishers and the first dog to cross the finish line will receive prizes.

Admission to the pet expo is free. The expo will feature pet-related vendor booths, canine demonstrations, microchipping services, family-friendly activities and refreshments. Dogs and cats from various Licking County rescue organizations will be on hand and available for adoption.

The event is sponsored by Tri County Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep and the Granville Recreation District.

The Dawes Arboretum will hold its perennial plant sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10.

The sale is open to the public, as well as Friends of Dawes, whose members will receive 10 percent off their purchases.
