The Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority will host an open house at the former Newark Air Force Base Saturday, Oct. 8. The event is open to the public.

Boeing, Bionetics, AFMETCAL, Goodrich, NARFE and the Port Authority will mark the occasion of 15 years since privatization-in-place of the former Newark Air Force Base in 1996. They will also kick off the anniversary of 50 years since guidance system and metrology work first came to Heath in 1962.

The celebration and open house will be preceded by a formal ceremony at 11:30 a.m., including remarks from local, state and federal officials. Employees who arrived at NAFB prior to Dec. 13, 1962, and members of the Missilettes are encouraged to be in attendance for the opening ceremony so that they can be recognized.

Tours will be conducted from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Boeing 3D virtual reality lab, the new Horton Building and the Aerospace Center campus will be open for tours. Several informational displays will be on view, and Joe the “Science Guy” will present two shows.

The afternoon will include an ice cream social, as well as on-site food vendors.
