Johnstown: Man steals smokes, flees on bike

After stealing cigarettes from a business, a man's getaway was a bicycle, according to Johnstown police.

A man allegedly stole three cartons of cigarettes from CVS, 797 W. Coshocton St., and left on a bicycle through the Kroger fuel plaza at 4:37 p.m. Aug. 17. A witness said the man put the bike behind Burger King, according to reports.

In other Johnstown police incident reports:

* Police units checked the with sheriff's office after gun shots reportedly were heard by a Concord East resident at 9 p.m. Aug. 21.

* A squatter reported was living in a tent on Buena Vista by Edwards Road, in the tree line, according to a suspicious-person report received at 12:42 p.m. Aug. 20. Police located the tent.

* Police found a Main Street man who had fallen out of his wheelchair and needed assistance after a caller requested a wellness check at 7:55 a.m. Aug. 20. A police officer assisted the fire department in getting the man back into his wheelchair. The resident refused transportation to a hospital and treatment.

* An unresponsive male was found in the first block of Oregon Street after a complaint was received by police at 4:05 a.m. Aug. 20. The man is a recovering addict, according to reports.

* Prescription drugs were reported stolen, again, at 8:55 p.m. Aug. 19 in the first block of South Williams Street.

* Police secured a window that was found open at Johnstown-Monroe High School, 401 S. Oregon St., at 1:39 a.m. Aug. 19.

* A Briarwood Drive resident reported seeing a male sell drugs to another male, who went into the trees by the storage sheds and used the drugs. The report was received at 8:05 p.m. Aug. 16.

* A caller told police that at midnight, she saw three people trying to get into an empty house in the first block of North Main Street. Police found an open side door.

* A suspicious person was reported at 7:19 p.m. Aug. 17, when a man was seen wondering around with a clipboard at Williams and Maple. Police said the man had a permit.

* A suspicious person was reported at 8:49 p.m. Aug. 15 in the 400 block of Sunset Drive. Police said the man was selling alarm systems.
