Johnstown Special Needs Medical Closet, yard sale, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Kroger parking lot on Route 62 in Johnstown. The sale includes household items, children's toys and furniture. Clothing will be sold at $5 for a full grocery bag. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of two mobile scooters to be lent for area residents' use. Johnstown Area Seniors, meeting and program, 10 a.m. Nov. 11 at Church of the Ascension, 555 S. Main St., Johnstown. This is a non-denominational group for those 55 years of age or older. A social gathering with coffee starts the day, with a meeting at 10:30 a.m., a program at 11 a.m. and lunch at 11:30 a.m. There is a $5 one-time admission fee and $5 fee for each meeting that includes lunch.

AARP Foundation Senior Community Service Employment Program assists unemployed Franklin, Delaware and Licking county workers age 55 and over with securing employment. Licking County Genealogical Society, genealogy classes, Oct. 12 in Meeting Room A at the Newark Library, 101 W. Main St., Newark. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m. Session III features "Make Sense of the Census and Lineage Groups" while Session IV covers "Review of Genealogy Software plus Ancestry.com and familysearch.org." Dining with Diabetes, cooking school program for individuals with diabetes and their families, 5:30 p.m. Oct. 10, 17 and 24 in the first-floor conference rooms at Licking Memorial Hospital, 1320 W. Main St., Newark. The classes will feature healthy meal demonstrations, taste-testing and discussions about carbohydrates, fats and vitamins. In addition, a three-course meal will be served at each session. Dining with Diabetes is presented by Licking Memorial Health Systems in partnership with the Ohio State University Extension Office.
