Johnstown-Monroe offering counseling to students folowing death of classmates


The Johnstown-Monroe Local School District has arranged to provide counselors and clergy for students from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, at the high school media center following the death of current and former students in a car accident that occurred about noon today, June 26, near Alexandria.

J-M Superintendent Dale Dickson said in a press release that Michael Hoskinson, 17, and Jaylynn Rigio, 16, are current Johnstown students among the five involved in the accident on Hardscrabble Road in Licking County.

Hoskinson's injuries were fatal.

Linzie Bell and Cheyenne Spurgeon, both 15, also died in the accident

Ashton Cody, 16, was hospitalized.

According to the Granville post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, all of the teens who were killed were in the back seat of a Mitsubishi Diamante that split in two after it hit a tree.

“The Johnstown-Monroe Local School District is saddened to learn of the tragic accident involving our students,” Dickson said. “Our children are among the most precious gifts we receive in life. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of these precious ones.”
