The Johnstown-Monroe High School girls basketball program has a new leader who is a familiar face.

Carl Dufford has taught government, economics and geography at the high school since 1978 and has coached basketball at various levels. Dufford, who replaces Connie Allen, was the boys basketball coach from 1988-94. He also was the girls varsity assistant under Debbie Seibel from 2000-04 and has been the eighth-grade girls coach the last three seasons.

"Carl is not only a great teacher, but is also a great person and we are very fortunate as a school district to have someone of his stature who wants to lead the program," athletics director Mike Carter said. "He will not only teach the kids about basketball, but also about life. We're excited about Carl taking a lead role in Johnstown athletics."
