Girls track team wins Millersport title

Depth helped the Johns-town-Monroe High School girls track and field team win the title April 26 in the eight-team Millersport Laker Invitational.

The Johnnies (132.5 points) finished ahead of runner-up Northridge (127) and had three individual winners in senior Kendall Colvin in the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches), senior Marissa Sheets in the 400 meters (1 minute, 3.42 seconds) and sophomore Elizabeth Blenk in the 200 (28.51).

Blenk also was second in the long jump (14-10), third in the 110 hurdles (18.43) and ran on the second-place 800 relay (1:53.9) with Sheets and juniors Madison Blair and Kylie Workman.

Senior Abby Smith was second in the shot put (30-10) and discus (85-2 1/2). Junior McCalah Mast was second in the 3,200 (13:04.7), third in the 1,600 (5:55) and ran on the runner-up 3,200 relay (10:53.33) with freshman Grace Mast, junior Jessica Turner and junior Taylor Thomas.

Workman was third in the 100 (13.86) and freshman Alaiha Morrison was third in the pole vault (7-0). Blair was third in the 300 hurdles (53.96) and Grace Mast was fourth in the 800 (2:40.26).

The boys team was sixth (58) behind champion Fisher Catholic (119) and led by junior Alex Workman, who won the pole vault (12-6) and was fourth in the 300 hurdles (45.82). Freshman Josiah Annis was second in the pole vault (12-0).

Junior Nathanael Ashbrook was fourth in the long jump (18-3 3/4) and sophomore Bryce Sinningson took fourth in the high jump (5-4).

The 3,200 relay of sophomores Sam Wirth, Sinningson, Stephen Harper and Kaleb Walker was fourth (10:02.1).

Softball team wins six of eight

The softball team had won six of its previous eight games to improve to 10-10 overall and 6-4 in the MBC before playing Fredericktown on May 3.

In a 4-2 league victory over Danville on April 26, freshman Maddi Lusk threw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts, and she also had two singles and an RBI.

On April 27, the Johnnies swept Mansfield Christian 10-0 and 9-4 in a doubleheader.

On April 29, Lusk earned the win in a 7-2 league victory over East Knox as she struck out seven and walked two. She also had a home run, two singles and three RBI. Junior Natalie Carpenter (SS) had a double and an RBI, and freshman Erin McConnell (C) had a triple and an RBI.

The Johnnies lost to Centerburg 6-4 on April 20 as Lusk took the loss.
