The Northridge High School boys and girls track and field teams had three competitors in the Division II regional meet held May 29 and 31 at Lexington.
Chad Campbell competed for the boys team, and Hayley Menix and Ellie Shedloski qualified for the girls team.
Campbell competed in the long jump May 29, finishing 11th with an effort of 19 feet. He also competed in the high jump May 31.
The top four finishers in each event advanced to the state meet Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7, at Ohio State.
"I thought Chad came in a little rattled and nervous," coach Jeff Dingess said. "He was nowhere close to where he had been jumping, but the experience should be good for him."
Shedloski won the 100 meters (12.86 seconds) in the district meet May 24 at Heath. She advanced to the regional final May 31 by finishing in the top eight (sixth, 13.07) in the preliminaries May 29.
"Ellie didn't run her best race, but she ran fast enough to qualify for the finals," Dingess said.
Menix competed in the long jump May 31.
At district, the girls finished 12th (24 points) behind champion Heath (70) as 21 teams scored. The boys competed in district 2 and finished 10th (18) behind champion Caledonia River Valley (130) as 14 teams scored.
Johnnies fail to have state qualifier
Johnstown-Monroe failed to advance anyone to state, as Josiah Annis finished eighth in the boys pole vault (13-0) in the Division II regional May 29 at Lexington and the girls 3,200 relay of McCalah Mast, Erica Cox, Taylor Thomas and Grace Mast was disqualified.
"It wasn't a good day for Johnstown," assistant coach Mark Thomas said. "The (3,200) relay was disqualified and Josiah broke a pole on his first try and could only clear 13 feet."
Annis and the girls 3,200 relay were the only competitors at regional for the Johnnies. Wyatt Tilton of Bellville Clear Fork earned the fourth and final state-qualifying berth in the boys pole vault with a 14-3.
The boys team finished 11th (15) in the district 2 meet while the girls finished 17th (15) at district.
