Ashland University has awarded scholarships to the following students to three Newark students.

Leo Anderson of Newark received the Joseph Weltmer II endowed scholarship. The son of Michael and Karla Anderson, he is majoring in integrated social studies.

Dayna Hess of Newark has been awarded the Judith A. Somers and the Topper endowed scholarships. An accounting major, she is the daughter of Robin and Denise Hess.

Christian Livingston of Newark received the Virgil L. and LaDonna Cox endowed scholarship. He is the son of Anita Litzinger.

The recipients of more than 350 scholarships donated by alumni and friends were recognized at an April 13 luncheon.

The following Newark students have received degrees from Ashland University: Tammy Barnett, Vincent Cashdollar, Courtney Crabtree, Jeffrey Dalzell, Curtis Hewitt, Sydney Marcelain and Erin McCord.

Robert Gardner of Granville, a Miami University senior, recently was installed as a charter member of Xi chapter of Tau Beta Pi, a national engineering honor society.

To be eligible, students must be in the top one-eighth of the junior class or top one-fifth of the senior class and demonstrate leadership and service.

Gardner is a mechanical engineering major.

Larissa Gorter of Newark has been inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honorary with a chapter at Muskingum College. The group recognizes achievement in five areas of scholarship: athletics, campus/community service, social/religious activities, campus government or public service and the creative and performing arts.

Gorter majors in special education.

Miami University student Brian C. Clark of Newark recently received the Koehler Prize, a mathematics and statistics award, during the mathematics and statistics department's awards banquet at the university.

Steven Bernini of Granville, a freshman at Beloit College, earned a grade-point average of at least 3.4 for the spring semester and has been named to the dean's list.
