The Works will hold its third "Music in the Courtyard" concert from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1.

The lunchtime concert will be performed in the LeFevre Courtyard at The Works, one block south of courthouse square in downtown Newark. Admission is free.

The Backporch Swing Band, featuring three-time Ohio fiddle champion Adam Jackson, will perform a mix of Western swing, old jazz and country favorites. Other band members include Alana Lupardus, Pete Shew and Zeke Hutchison.

The concert is the third of five monthly programs scheduled as part of the Music in the Courtyard series.

Upcoming bands include The Tom Carroll and Andy Carlson Trio on Sept. 5 and the Granville High School Steel Drum Band on Oct. 3.

During each concert, bubble-making will help entertain children and free Velvet ice cream will be offered while supplies last. Concertgoers can bring their own lunches or purchase food from the Heritage Deli.
