The Afropop Ensemble at Ohio State University at Newark will present its first concert of the academic year at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

The Afropop Ensemble at Ohio State University at Newark will present its first concert of the academic year at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

The concert, free and open to the public, will be held in Founders Hall auditorium. Families with children are particularly welcome.

The all-instrumental concert will feature several tunes from Paul Simon's "Graceland" album. The music is based on South African and southwest Louisiana grooves.

Afropop Ensemble has been offered as an OSUN university course since 2002. Students learn to perform popular dance music styles from various African nations. The group performs several times each quarter, both on campus and off.

"Afropop" is a term used to describe the popular music of Africa.

Licking Memorial Hospital has announced a new addition to its imaging services -- a PET/CT system (positron emission tomography combined with a CT scanner), which offers early and highly accurate cancer detection.

More precise than other technologies, the PET/CT equipment can combine the images of the PET scanner with the CT scanner into one extremely detailed image. The new technology will be used for neurology and cardiology patients.
