Granville's planning commission will hear an application for a new candy store during its meeting Monday, April 27.

Granville's planning commission will hear an application for a new candy store during its meeting Monday, April 27.

Village planner Alison Terry said the application is for 238 E. Broadway, at the northwest corner of Broadway and Pearl Street. She said James Brooks of HER Realtors wants to use 285 square feet of space on the first floor for a candy shop that would display and sell candy.

"They will not make it there," Terry said.

The application requires a change of use from category C, which allows business and professional offices, to category B, which would allow the candy shop.

The building has direct access from North Pearl Street and enough parking for all of the businesses using the building. According to Terry's staff report, "the applicant will be required to provide two parking spaces with this proposed use. Cumulatively, the applicant will be required to provide five parking spaces total for the existing and proposed uses. The applicant has submitted a site plan that shows a total of five parking spaces, including two garage spaces to meet this requirement."

Terry said the application meets village standards within the village business district.

"It meets the parking requirements and is a permitted use," she said.

Donna Brooks, one of the building's owners, said a well-known candy store in the area is interested in leasing the space, which is available.

"It's good for the village because there's nothing like that in this area," Brooks said. "We have the extra space to lease and think this will be a good corner for them."

Brooks said it would be good for the HER real estate business, which is in the same building.

The real estate business currently occupies about 300 square feet of the building.

The planning commission meets at 7 p.m. Monday, April 27, in Granville Village Hall on Broadway.
