at LCA gallery
Two Denison University seniors have exhibits at the Denison Museum, 240 West Broadway.
Nathalie VanBalen, a student in the bachelor-of-fine-arts program, created "Awake," a video installation that showcases two videos, "Airdusting" and "Flickerswimming."
VanBalen also is exhibiting a performance-based video titled "Reveal, Conceal" and an untitled artist's book. VanBalen's work will be displayed through Wednesday, May 6.
Charles "Chick" Byrne, also a student in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program, will open his exhibit, "Softly Silent" with a free gallery discussion at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 11, at the museum.
Byrne's exhibit is composed of works of pen and ink, graphite, India ink and acrylic paint on raw canvas.
Also on display at the museum is "From the Basement," a group exhibition of Denison's senior art majors. This exhibit displays the best works created during the last year.
Weathervane Playhouse's 2009 season has been announced.
The theatre's 41st season will begin with the musical, "Sweet Charity," June 4-13.
"The Cemetery Club," a comedy about three middle-aged widows, is scheduled for June 18-27.
Following that is "Into the Woods," the musical that tells what happened to fairy-tale characters after "happily ever after." The Tony Award-winning show by Stephen Sondheim will run July 2-11.
"Cheaper by the Dozen," the story of the Gilbreth family, runs July 16-25."
The final show, "The Secret Garden," the musical based on the book by Frances Hodgson Burnett, opens July 30 and closes Aug. 8.
All shows begin at 8 p.m. except for the Saturday, July 4, performance of "Into the Woods," which begins at 7 p.m.

Park National Corporation has accepted the retirement of J. Gilbert (Gib) Reese from its board of directors and the Park National Bank board of directors.
Reese, who served on the bank board for 44 years, was a founding member of the corporate board, which formed in 1987.
Reese is an attorney, retired from the Newark firm Reese, Pyle, Drake & Meyer, P.L.L.
The PNB board named Reese director emeritus. The designation permits him to attend bank board meetings.
PNB's directors also elected Sarah Reese Wallace to the corporate board. Wallace, who joined the bank board last year, will serve on the Park National Corp. board.
Wallace, the daughter of Gilbert and Lou Reese, represents the third generation of the Reese family to be involved in the Park National Bank and the Park National Corp.
The Licking County Arts Gallery exhibit "Portraits" opened April 24 at 38 S. Third St. in Newark.
The show features portraits by local artists Russell Merrit and Mary Woodward, as well as works by other LCA artists.
LCA is a nonprofit organization supporting the arts in Licking County.
