The annual fundraising drive to decorate the Licking County Courthouse for the holiday season has been extended until Friday, Nov. 13. The original deadline was Oct. 30.

Lighting committee president Jay Barker reported that the effort so far has raised $13,875, 75 percent of the $18,500 goal.

The traditional courthouse lighting ceremony is held the Friday after Thanksgiving, which this year is Nov. 27.

Tax-deductible contributions may be sent to the Licking County Courthouse Lighting Committee, P.O. Box 292, Newark, OH 43058-0292.

The Works in downtown Newark, in partnership with the Licking-Knox chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, is accepting donations of food, personal care products and other items to be sent to Licking County servicemen and women serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. The packages will be delivered to the troops in time for Christmas.

Items needed include individually wrapped snack foods (no pork is allowed); canned fruits with pull-tab tops, individual servings of cereal, popcorn, nuts, candy and beverage mixes, and similar items. Call (740) 349-9277.
