The annual Senior Citizen Fishing Tournament runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, at T.J. Evans Park in north Newark.

The annual Senior Citizen Fishing Tournament runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, at T.J. Evans Park in north Newark.

The fishing derby is for people age 55 and older and those who are physically challenged. Prizes and trophies will be awarded. Two fish have been tagged. Anyone who catches a tagged fish will receive $25.

Meal tickets for the day are available for $3 at Zerger Hall Senior Center, 745 E. Main St. through May 28. No meal tickets will be available at the park. The menu includes grilled hamburgers, hot dogs and several side dishes. Pastries and hot and cold beverages also will be available.

Tournament participants must furnish their own tackle, but bait will be available. Fishing permits will be available at the park.

The Senior Citizen Fishing Tournament is a cooperative venture of the Land of Legend Fly Fishermen and Friends, Newark Parks and Recreation Department and the Licking County Aging Program. The Senior Citizen Fishing Tournament has been an annual event for 20 years.

A bird walk will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, at the Denison University Biological Reserve (Bioreserve).

Manager Whitney Stocker will lead the walk, which will emphasize identifying species by song.

Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and be prepared to walk in wet grass. The walk, which is free and open to the public, may be canceled if it's raining or very windy.
