The July Fourth concert and fireworks display will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, at the Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

Opening the show will be the local singing duo Sticks & Stones 2, followed at 8 p.m. by the 60-member Heisey Wind Ensemble. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m.

The show will be held at the Martha Grace Reese Amphitheatre. Local vendors will offer food and beverages.

The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, picnics and blankets for the evening.

The Newark Library is offering a Teen Variety Troupe for students in grades 9-12.

Registration is under way for the performance group. Rehearsals will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on June 30, July 1, 7, 8, 14, 15 and July 21.

The troupe, accompanied by a troupe of performers in grades 6-8, will perform at the library at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 22.

Entertainment will include dance, music, theatrics, jokes and other talents. A signed photo release form is required to participate; forms are available at the Newark Library.

The Historic Hudson Community Association in Newark will host "Twilight on Hudson Avenue," a garden and artist tour, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 10.

Candlelit gardens will be open to visitors, who will meet regional artists and see their work. Refreshments also will be available.

Tickets are $10 in advance and may be purchased at Cedars Garden Center, Newark Family Shoes and Forever Flowers.

Tickets on the day of the tour are $12, available at 431 Hudson Ave. The rain date is July 11.

An audition will be held for the Missoula Children's Theatre musical production of "The Jungle Book."

About 50 roles are available for local children and teenagers, from those who will start first grade in the fall through those who will be high school seniors.

The audition will run from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, July 12, in the ballroom at The Place Off the Square, 50 N. Second St. in Newark. Those auditioning should arrive at 4 and plan to stay the full two hours. Some cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately after the audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Most cast members will rehearse about four-and-a-half hours a day Monday through Friday.

Two performances of the play, based on the work of Rudyard Kipling, will be presented, at 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 17.

The Missoula Children's Theatre is in Newark in conjunction with the Midland Theatre's CAMP ENCORE drama workshops.
