Two longtime friends will perform Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Midland Theatre in Newark.
"An Acoustic Evening with Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt" begins at 7:30 p.m.
According to information from the Midland, Lovett and Hiatt offer "intimate acoustic shows that feature the artists performing onstage together and alternating songs from throughout their careers."

Midland to host
Mystic Drumz will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Midland Theatre in Newark.
The Mystic Drumz comprise a group of creative musicians and teachers who weave together musical lessons and fantastic stories that involve audience participation.
Also involved in the show are audio/visual technicians, costume designers and stage crews whose efforts contribute to the interactive family show.

OSU's Gee to speak
at groundhog event
Ticket sales are under way for the Licking County Chamber of Commerce's 55th annual Groundhog Breakfast, to be held at 6 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 4.
The breakfast will be served at Adena Hall on the shared campus of Central Ohio Technical College and the Ohio State University, Newark.
The keynote speaker will be E. Gordon Gee, president of OSU.

Tax prep offered
by AARP volunteers
Free tax form assistance and preparation for taxpayers with low and moderate incomes will be offered by AARP Tax-Aide at Zerger Hall Senior Center, 745 E. Main St., Newark.
Appointments are necessary and are being scheduled now. Call (740) 404-8053 between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Those who make appointments are asked to bring identification with a photo and a Social Security card along with their tax information. Include a copy of your 2009 tax return and a copy of any real estate taxes paid in 2010.

Kent exhibit up
The Denison Museum's spring semester exhibit, "The Rockwell Kent Project," will be displayed through April 18.
According to information from Denison University, Kent's long career as a painter, illustrator, satirist, writer, muralist, printmaker and activist exemplifies the changing roles of the 20th-century visual artist and writer. The exhibition includes original prints from Denison's permanent collection as well as objects on loan from Kent State University, Smith College Museum of Art, Mead Art Museum and the Columbus Museum of Art.

COSI, 333 W. Broad St., Columbus, is hosting "Geckos: Tails to Toepads" through May 8.
This traveling exhibition features black light graphics, interactive displays and living examples from around the world.
Highlights will include photographs, hands-on activities and a recreation of gecko habitats.
The exhibit is included with museum admission.
