The Licking County Aging Program will sponsor its 15th annual veterans honors ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Zerger Hall Senior Center, 745 E. Main St.
The “Roll Call of Honors” will include the names of deceased veterans. This solemn portion of the program has been the event’s hallmark since its inception.
Names of deceased veterans are given to the agency to read. Forms to submit a name are available in the November edition of “Zerger Times” or at the Zerger Hall receptionist desk. They may also be submitted by mail.
After the names are read, the Licking County Veterans Alliance will play taps and there will be an honorary rifle volley. The program will also include a speaker.
A reception with light refreshments and sandwiches will follow.
The Works will host a Veterans Day salute from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.
Admission to the museum will be free. Winners will be announced and grand prizes awarded for the Licking County Medal of Honor essay contest beginning at 2 p.m. Winners will read their essays aloud.
Fourth-graders and eighth-graders in Licking County were eligible to enter the contest. Entrants wrote 500-word essays about Medal of Honor recipients from Licking County. The top prize is a trip to Gettsyburg worth $500.
The Works is at 55 S. First St. in Newark.
