Pataskala will permit only nonprofits to use ball fields
The Pataskala Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on Nov. 13 changed its user agreement.
It requires organizations or groups that want to use ball fields in the parks to be nonprofit organizations, which are responsible for insuring participants.
Law Director Rufus Hurst said the city has insurance for negligence that occurs on city property but it does not carry liability insurance to cover organizations using the ball fields.
The board also included a clause in the agreement that states any user who fails to return park keys to the board at the end of the season is guilty of "unauthorized use of city property."
Both changes were made in response to questions from board members at the Nov. 6 meeting.
The board also on Nov. 13 approved user agreements with the Licking Heights Youth Association, Pataskala Recreation Association, the Central Ohio Youth Baseball League, all of which use ball fields in Pataskala parks.
