The Heisey Wind Ensemble will present two holiday concerts in December.
The first program, "Christmas at the Reese Center," begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. The 60-member concert band is directed by Russel Mikkelson, director of bands at the Ohio State University in Columbus.
The program will be in the John W. Alford Performing Arts Hall in the John Gilbert Reese Center on the campus of OSU and Central Ohio Technical College in Newark.
Traditional carols and holiday classics will be performed. Tenor Travis Laws will be featured in Some Children See Him and also will serve as the narrator in The Night Before Christmas. Other highlights include soprano Laura Portune's performance of Handel's Rejoice Greatly and baritone Robert Kerr's O Holy Night. Portune and Kerr also will sing a duet of Do You Hear What I Hear?
Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride and an audience sing-along of well-known carols will cap off the evening.
Tickets will be sold only at the door. Audience members are urged to arrive early. General admission tickets are $15; those for seniors (age 60 and up) are $10; and students are $5.
The Heisey Wind Ensemble will present "A HWE Big Band Christmas" at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, also at the Reese Center. Again, tickets will be sold only at the door.
The HWE has been recognized as one of Ohio's finest adult concert bands. Membership is by audition only and includes musicians from Licking, Franklin, Fairfield, Delaware, Coshocton, Knox, Guernsey and Muskingum counties.
