Pataskala mayor plans to seek re-election
Steve Butcher, who is completing his second term as mayor of Pataskala, recently announced his intention to run for re-election in November.
Butcher said he decided to run after meeting with city officials and members of Pataskala City Council.
He said he'd like to continue the work that has been started in the city during his tenure.
Butcher was elected in 2005 and 2009.
In the 2009 election, he received 44 percent of the vote, defeating Mike Fox, who currently serves on Pataskala City Council; Terry Beekman; and Richard Frost.
The race for mayor is nonpartisan, according to city charter, and it requires no primary.
The filing deadline for candidates in nonpartisan races is Aug. 7, according to the Licking County Board of Elections website.
As of May 3, no candidates had filed petitions to run for mayor of Pataskala, said Sue Penick, director of the Licking County Board of Elections.
Prior to serving as mayor, Butcher was appointed in 2001 to serve the remainder of a City Council term and served on Pataskala's economic-development committee.
Butcher and his wife, Nancy, own the Nutcracker Family Restaurant on Broad Street.
