Dawes Arboretum

Dawes Arboretum is at state Route 13, five miles south of Newark and three miles north of Interstate 70, Exit 132. Call 740-323-2355 or 1-800-44.DAWES for more information or to register.

The following programs at the arboretum:

* Camp Dawes, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 10-14 OR June 24-28. Campers will see animals in their natural habitat, wade through streams and walk in the woods while recording events in a naturalist field guide that they made themselves. Cost is $100 for members; $125 for nonmembers.

* Nature Investigators, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 17-21. Each day begins with a riddle. Campers use deductive reasoning to solve the riddle. Games, hands-on activities and nature-inspired crafts are included. Cost is $100 for members/$125 for nonmembers.

* Bugology, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 8-12. Campers will learn to identify insects, create tools to catch them and start a collection in an insect box they decorated themselves. A bug specialist will offer hands-on experience. Cost is $100 for members; $125 for nonmembers.

* Nature Sensors, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 15-19. Campers will learn the ways insects, amphibians and other mammals use their senses differently from humans. Cost is $100 for members; $125 for nonmembers.

For 6- to 11-year-olds:

* Color Me Wild! 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 1-3. Campers explore how colors in nature can inspire art in this three-day art camp.

For 9- to 11-year-olds:

* Camp Dawes, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 10-14 OR June 24-28. Campers will hike, make outdoor-inspired crafts and conduct scientific experiments while studying Native American culture and visiting the Indian Mound. Construct and add to a field guide. Cost is $100 for members; $125 for nonmembers.

* Adventure Quest, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 17-21. Explore nature, the environment and science at this program, a step up from Camp Dawes. Cost is $100 for members; $125 for nonmembers.
