He is a founding member of the Newark Campus Development Fund and currently serves as chairman of the fund.
Barker was nominated for the Distinguished Alumni Award, given to a graduate of one of Ohio's community colleges who has attained notable professional achievements and demonstrated a passionate level of commitment to the local community and higher education. A 1986 graduate, Barker is active on the COTC Alumni Council and will become president of the council in 2014.
