Fox says he will join Pataskala mayoral race
Pataskala City Councilman Mike Fox said July 15 he has decided to run for mayor in the November general election.
“I think we need a change in the community,” Fox said.
For the second consecutive election, Fox plans to challenge Mayor Steve Butcher, who in May announced his re-election bid and is completing his second term.
The two men ran for mayor in 2009, along with Terry Beekman and Richard Frost.
Fox was elected in 2011 to Pataskala City Council to serve Ward 3.
He has an associate’s degree in public administration from Franklin University and has lived in Pataskala for 25 years.
He served three years on the city’s planning and zoning commission and four years on City Council previously and owns Fox’s Locks and Security on Main Street.
Fox said he feels the current administration is spending a lot of money on things that he doesn’t see as top priorities.
He said the city officials need to cut back on spending so they do not have to ask voters for more income-tax funds.
Per the city charter, the Pataskala mayoral race is nonpartisan, which requires no primary.
The filing deadline for candidates in nonpartisan races is Aug. 7, according to the Licking County Board of Elections website.
