Licking County Genealogical Society, August meeting and annual potluck, 5:30 p.m. Aug. 5, in the first floor meeting room, Newark Library, 101 W. Main St., Newark. Participants are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert to share; table service and beverages will be provided by LCGS. The program will focus on John Lincoln Clem, presented by Terry Cooperrider, local genealogist and LCGS volunteer. An induction of new members into the Society of Civil War Families of Licking County will be included. Plan to attend and bring a guest, meeting is free and open to the public with this stipulation. The 23rd annual Community Prayer Breakfast, 6:30 a.m. Aug. 9 at COTC/OSU Newark, Adena Hall. Doors open at 6 a.m. to a buffet breakfast with a program featuring Rick Hicks as keynote speaker. Hicks, a graduate of the FBI National Academy who has served more than 34 years in law enforcement, will discuss how his faith impacts his life on the streets. West Licking Firefighter's Association Women's Auxiliary, 29th Annual Little Miss Firefighter Competition, Aug. 14, at the 2013 Pataskala Street Fair. This competition is open to girls entering the second grade this upcoming school year who reside in the West Licking Joint Fire District. Daughters of West Licking Firefighters, Association and Auxiliary members are ineligible. Registration forms must be received no later than July 31. These forms may be picked up at any District Fire Station, Mink Street, Broad Street-Pataskala, or Kirkersville. They also are available online at Pataskalastreetfair.org, click on Women's Auxiliary. AARP Foundation Senior Community Service Employment Program assists unemployed Franklin, Delaware and Licking county workers age 55 and over with securing employment. The program offers paid work experience, specialized training, upgrading of skills and job-search assistance. Age, income and residency requirements apply. Friends and Family Infant and Child CPR Class, geared toward expectant parents and grandparents, 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 2 and again Aug. 9, in the first-floor conference rooms at Licking Memorial Hospital, 1320 W. Main St., Newark. Although this class does not provide official certification, it focuses on basic life support and treatment for children who are choking. Cost is $5 per person.
