The Cat in the Hat, Thing One, Thing Two and some of Dr. Seuss' other famous characters will be featured in Seussical the Musical Aug. 9-10 at the Sterling Theater in Pataskala.
"It's really adorable and there are some really important messages in it, some things that are really important for adults and kids," said Marcia Busler, the show's director.
Busler said important themes are "a person's a person, no matter how small" and that standing up for one's beliefs is important.
The cast of Seussical the Musical includes high school and college students from Granville Christian Academy, Newark, Newark Catholic and Watkins Memorial high schools and Bowling Green and Wright State universities, said Andrew Protopapas, another show organizer.
Busler said organizers advertise for performers from all over Licking County for the Sterling Theater youth summer production.
"We're trying to get more schools in Licking County involved," she said.
Busler said she held auditions and cast most of those who tried out.
The show features almost 30 performers, some of whom have little experience.
Busler said Watkins Memorial graduate Alyssa Welker, a junior studying music education at Wright State University, will perform as the Cat in the Hat.
Welker performed many lead roles in Watkins Memorial plays and is adept at acting, singing and dancing, Busler said.
She said some cast members with less experience also have exceptional talents, Including Ty Peterson, a senior at Granville Christian Academy.
Busler said Peterson has an exceptional voice and will portray Horton the Elephant.
Seussical the Musical will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10, at the Sterling Theater, 430 S. Main St. in Pataskala.
Tickets are $5.
They will be available at the door; in advance at the Pataskala Banking Co.'s main branch, 354 S. Main St., at the Nutcracker Family Restaurant, 63 E. Broad St.; and online at sterlingtheater.ticketleap.com.
