Etna Township trustee incumbents John Carlisle and Randy Foor will be challenged in the Nov. 5 election by Kathy Johnston, who serves on the township's board of zoning appeals.
Carlisle and Foor both were elected in 2009.
Carlisle owns J.J. Carlisle Mechanical Contractors and has been a resident of Etna for 30 years. He currently serves as chair of the board of trustees and serves on the Ohio Township Association board.
Carlisle said when he and Foor were elected, the township was in turmoil. He said they promised to run the township as a business -- and they have.
"I think people have a confidence level with the present administration," he said "We told them we were going to do things based on business decisions and not be political."
Foor is employed by Controlled Products Systems Group.
Foor said he decided to run again because he'd like to finish many of the projects started under the current administration.
"I feel like there's a lot of unfinished business the current board has started," Foor said.
He agreed with Carlisle that they have "taken the politics out and are running the township like a business."
"We had hoped to run unopposed, but we'll put our best foot forward and see what voters have to say," he said.
Johnston is a Licking County Republican Central Committee member.
In a press release, Johnston said she is running to provide greater transparency on the board and hopes to encourage a more diversified business community "with more family-friendly businesses which provide more convenience for our residents."
"There needs to be greater transparency on the board of trustees," she said in the release. "Issues impacting our lives need to be discussed in the public forum not behind closed doors."
