Pataskala police have plans to hire two clerks

The Pataskala Division of Police is expected to hire two clerks in the next two weeks.

Pataskala City Council on Sept. 16 approved a resolution 6-0, with Merissa McKinstry absent, to set the rate of pay at up to $14 an hour.

Police Chief Bruce Brooks said he requested the higher rate to attract more qualified applicants for the position.

Brooks said city officials hope to hire two clerks to replace Lori Burkhart, who left in February.

The clerks will answer phones, dispatch runs and file records, Brooks said.

He said records are kept in the basement, and it’s difficult to have the current temporary clerk working in the basement if that person must also answer the phone and talk to people who walk in to make records requests.

Police Capt. Michael Boals said the two clerks could work from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from noon to 5 p.m. daily to provide some dual coverage.
