Police search for man who allegedly impersonated an officer

The Pataskala Division of Police is looking for a man who allegedly impersonated a police officer Dec. 26 in the 600 block of Conine Way.

Police Chief Bruce Brooks said the suspect knocked on a resident's door at 6:16 p.m. and identified himself as a detective with the Pataskala Division of Police. He said he was there to check on the resident.

When the resident asked for identification, the suspect responded that he was the one who asks the questions.

Brooks said the victim shut the door and reported the incident to the police.

The suspect was described as a man with light black skin and braided hair. He was about 6 feet tall and wore dark clothes, according to the report.

Pataskala police also investigated several thefts that occurred during the holiday season.

* Police are investigating the theft of a wooden cow valued at $100 from a nativity scene at the Mead-Needham Museum, 300 Main St. The cow was taken between midnight and 1:07 p.m. Dec. 29, according to the police report.

* Three guns valued at $470 were reported stolen between 5 a.m. July 30 and 1 p.m. Nov. 20 from the 200 block of Cedar Street.

* Police are investigating the theft of red duffel bags and bolt cutters taken between 12:10 and 12:20 a.m. Dec. 20 from American Electric Power, 12220 Broad St.

* Police are investigating the theft of copper wire valued at $300 taken between midnight Dec. 17 and 10:40 a.m. Dec. 20 from a business in the 6000 block of Mink Road.

* Police arrested a 26-year-old man for assaulting a 21-year-old man at 2:39 p.m. Dec. 29 at a residence in the 14000 block of Broad Street.

* Police arrested a 25-year-old man for assault following an incident at Dugouts Sports Bar, 14952 Broad St., between 1:27 and 2:15 a.m. Jan. 1.

An employee trying to break up a fight was injured, the police report said.

* Police arrested a 53-year-old man for being under the influence following a traffic stop at 8:19 p.m. Dec. 18 on Refugee Road at Arbor Lane.

* Police arrested a 33-year-old man for being under the influence at 12:54 a.m. Dec. 28 in the first block of West Broad Street.

* Police arrested a 60-year-old man for an open container at 12:26 a.m. Dec. 22 on Broad Street at Oxford Drive.

* Police destroyed a cooler found with three containers of gunpowder inside it at 9:10 a.m. Dec. 24 in the 400 block of Main Street.

* Police arrested a 37-year-old man for improper handling of firearms and being under the influence at 1:35 p.m. Dec. 24 in the 3000 block of Summit Road.

* Police arrested a 29-year-old man for possession of drugs at 12:24 a.m. Dec. 28 on Mink Street at Refugee Road. The man was found with syringes, white crystals and a green leafy substance, according to the police report.

* Police arrested a 19-year-old man for drug abuse at 12:42 a.m. Dec. 29 on Broad Street at Legacy Lane.

* Police arrested an 18-year-old man for possession of drug-abuse instruments at 12:20 a.m. Dec. 29 on Broad Street at Oak Meadow Drive.
