Firearms-discharge zone

Decision on Fouras land still on hold

Pataskala resident Evangeline Fouras' request to remove 175 acres on Summit Road from the city's legal firearms-discharge zone remained tabled at the Jan. 21 City Council meeting.

Fouras asked City Council last year to remove the land she owns and her children own through a trust.

After several months of deliberations, City Council has not made a decision on the request, and now it appears one member will be removed from the determination.

On Jan. 21, council President Dan Hayes said he would not be able to vote on the request if it is removed from the table because his brother, attorney Scott Hayes, helped with changes to the trust two years ago.

"There's no technical conflict but I understand the appearance of impropriety and will not participate in that vote," Hayes said.
