Heritage Hall Senior Center is scheduling free tax appointments with older adults through a partnership of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the Licking County Aging Program.

AARP tax aides are professionally trained volunteers who prepare federal, state and local tax returns for low-to-moderate income tax payers with special emphasis on those age 60 and older.

For an appointment, call 740-641-2387 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The appointments will be at Heritage Hall, 1058 E. Main St., the LCAP headquarters.

AARP is seeking volunteer tax aides. Those interested in helping with the program may call AARP tax district coordinator Jim Holton at 740-345-0821.

Positions available include tax counselors with computer skills to prepare income taxes and answer questions, client facilitators who greet clients and a technology coordinator who manages computer equipment and provides technical assistance to the volunteers.

Instructors also are needed to teach tax counselors and facilitator volunteers codes of conduct, tax law and computer entry. Call Holton to be put on the January training schedule.
