The pavement on part of York Road in northwestern Licking County was washed out Friday morning, April 4, forcing authorities to close the road indefinitely.
A northbound driver alerted authorities to the damage. No one was hurt.
Heavy rains likely caused the damage, which began early in the morning when some of the pavement on the southbound side of the road washed out. By 10 a.m., almost the entire road had given way in large chunks.
Under the pavement is a 28-foot-wide culvert that carries the water of an unnamed tributary of Moots Run. The culvert is 150 feet long.
The closed portion of the road is near Morse Road, north of state Route 16 and south of state Route 161.
No timetable to reopen the road had been announced April 4.
