A pedestrian was apparently struck and killed in Licking County early today by a motorist who then fled the crash scene. A motorist called 911 after seeing the body on the side of the road about 1:50 a.m. The Granville post of the State Highway Patrol found the body in the westbound lanes of I-70 near milepost 118 near Pataskala.

The State Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a Columbus man who apparently was struck by a vehicle whose driver fled in Licking County.

A motorist called 911 after spotting the body of Larry Tackett, 48, on the side of I-70 about 1:50 a.m. yesterday. Troopers from the Granville post of the State Highway Patrol found Tackett’s body on the westbound berm close to milepost 118, near Pataskala.

Tackett, whose address wasn’t available, had no apparent reason for being on the freeway, said Sgt. Russell Pasqualetti.

“The types of injuries would indicate an impact with a vehicle,” he said. Yet there were no witnesses, vehicle debris or disabled or abandoned vehicles nearby.

The Licking County coroner conducted an autopsy yesterday morning. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was helping analyze clothing and other evidence for clues, Pasqualetti said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the State Highway Patrol at 740-654-1523.
