The 2008 holiday season officially gets under way Monday with the annual Marysville Christmas Walk. The event will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. in Uptown Marysville.

The Uptown Renewal Team, whose main mission is to revitalize uptown Marysville, planned the event. Sponsors include Honda Marysville, Nelson Auto Group, Roby Chevrolet, Chapman Ford, Union Rural Electric, Dayton Power & Light, Dave's Pharmacy and S & G Rental.

The theme for this year's event is "Miracle on Main Street."

The Christmas Walk will begin with the lighting of the city Christmas Tree at 5 p.m. at City Hall. With luminaries lighting the way, activities on the square in Uptown Marysville will include horse-drawn carriage rides, a live nativity scene at Lambert Jewelers, the Santa Express Train for children, a mosaic art project for the kids at Fifth Street Deli, story time at Java Town and refreshments at local businesses.

The Passport to Holidays in Uptown Marysville gives attendees a chance to win cash prizes.

The event will also feature demonstrations by Freddie the Fire Department Robot, dancing in the street by the youth of In Step Dance Studio and Patty Beery's School of Dance.

The festivities will also include live music and book signings by local authors at the Marysville Public Library. The Union County Humane Society tent will have dogs dressed as elves and ready to be adopted.

Carolers and plum pudding will be featured at First Presbyterian Church.

Santa will be on hand at the Santa House on the Square. The Union County Builders Industry Association, with support from the construction class at Ohio Hi-Point, built and decorated the special house for Santa.

Attendees can have their photo taken with Santa. In addition, last year's pictures will be available for those families who were unable to pick them up last year.

The Uptown Renewal Team is also sponsoring a window decorating contest for businesses in the Uptown Area. First-place prize includes a $50 gift certificate to Doc Henderson's Restaurant.
